Misti Balzer, LM
President
Misti Balzer, LM Licensed Midwife, Advocate, and Artist. With over 14 years of experience as a licensed midwife, Misti Balzer has dedicated her life to empowering women through one of life’s most transformative events: childbirth. Having owned and operated a birth center for 9 years, she now focuses on providing intimate, personalized care in home birth settings, where she believes women are best supported in reclaiming their power and confidence in motherhood. Her journey into midwifery was deeply personal, inspired by her own path as a young mother. By age 14, Misti was already on her journey to motherhood, and she soon found a calling in supporting other women through their births. This calling has only strengthened over the years, as she’s witnessed the resilience and strength each woman brings to her birth experience.Today, Misti is not only a devoted midwife but also a mother of six, a grandmother to four, an artist, and an advocate for women’s rights in childbirth. Her art often focuses on pregnancy and the female form, capturing the beauty and intensity of this life stage. She’s passionate about fostering a supportive, respectful environment for women to make informed choices and find empowerment in their births. Her goal is simple yet profound: to help women find their power, strength, and voice in birth and beyond.

Jacinda Golden, LM
Vice President/Treasurer
Jacinda moved to Jacksonville in 2012 with her husband Ben to attend the Florida School of Traditional Midwifery in Gainesville where she graduated from in Spring 2015. Since being licensed she has served families in birth centers, as a private home-birth midwife, and currently with Jacksonville Community Midwives. She loves the work that she is privileged to do as a midwife and has found her place in supporting women during the child-bearing year. Jacinda has three children Fletcher, Ivor, & Maeve who were all born at home. Her interests other than birth are listening to history podcasts, working on her house and yard, sewing, knitting & camping.

Maya Bence, LM
Secretary
Maya is a Jacksonville native who has been a birth worker for over 9 years. She has been enchanted by home birth ever since witnessing the birth of her precious niece in 2015. After witnessing her sister's powerful unmedicated birth with a midwife, she applied to midwifery school and began her training just 4 months afterwards. She graduated from The Florida School of Traditional Midwifery in 2019 after serving many families throughout the state of Florida. After working in a busy birth center during her first year of licensure, Maya fulfilled her dream of opening an intimate home birth practice with her business partner and friend Mandi. In 2020 Modern Midwives was born, allowing Maya the privilege of caring for families in their homes as they bring their babies to the world. Currently Maya lives on her property on the north side of Jax with her partner Chris, their two dogs and their beautiful son, Damian. In her free time Maya enjoys cooking, baking bread, gardening, and spending time with her large & loud family. Her biggest achievement to date is giving birth to her son in her home with Mandi as her midwife. Maya's goal as a midwife is to treat each woman with the same love and compassion she would give to her own sister. She has a deep passion for undisturbed birth & believes that every mother and baby should feel loved & listened to as they walk through the portal of pregnancy and birth.
